Cooperation partner and location: Aikido Ouka-Jyuku Darmstadt e.V. Saalbaustr. 2-4 (rear courtyard), 64283 Darmstadt

Fee: € 20 (students) / € 30 (staff)

Trainers: Stefan Nickels has been training aikido for 20 years. Anis El-Gadi has been performing martial arts since he was six years old. He came to aikido via Shotokan karate and Wushu-Sanda (Chinese kickboxing). Anis is a black belt in Wushu-Sanda (1st dan) and Aikido (3rd dan Aikikai Tokyo). Anis is a qualified sports instructor.

Description: Looking for a non-aggressive martial art? Interested in improving your flexibility, fitness and coordination? Or in strengthening your back muscles? Or maybe you're simply curious? Then come along and try out Aikido with us! We train rolls, falls and defence techniques. The training is supplemented by sword and staff-based exercises. Training is conducted barefoot. At the beginning, long-sleeved sportswear is sufficient. Aikido is suitable for men and women of all ages. Aikido is more than a sport. Aikido is a philosophy with a physical dimension. The underlying principle is one of non-violence. Aikido trains not only the body, but also the mind and soul. Aikido was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba from various Japanese Budo disciplines. Of primary importance is control of the body. It is all about choosing the right time to use minimal movements to put your partner off-balance. It is rarely necessary to use brute strength, instead you exploit and redirect the strength of your partner.

Authentic Movement

Day: May 4, 2024

Time: 11am to 2pm

Location: Sports facility building A10 room -1.03

Instructor: Sophia Schmilinsky more info on:

www.authenticbody.de

Costs: 10 euros (students)/ 20 euros (employees)

The practice of "Authentic Movement" consists of one person, the mover, closing their eyes and attentively sensing how their body wants to move in a silent space. It is an exercise in releasing control over one's own movement and giving space to the impulses that come from within. Another person witnesses this expression, attentively and without interpreting.

This workshop offers an introduction to this practice and, through group awareness, body awareness exercises and energy building, carefully prepares you to engage in this movement practice, which may include feeling and emotion. The workshop will be led by an experienced body psychotherapist and improvisational dancer.

Fee: 20,- Euro students/ 30,- employers

Teacher: Antonia La Delfa ssa.camundongo@gmail.com

Capoeira is a very popular martial art in Brazil, whose roots come from Africa. African slaves brought their culture, music, musical instruments, dances and fighting styles from their homeland to Brazil and mixed them with the rites of the peoples living there; this is how today's Afro-Brazilian culture was born. One form of this is called capoeira.
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial dance that incorporates music, dance, play as well as fighting, and moreover, it is the expression of a certain lifestyle. Capoeira combines opposites such as fighting and playing, aggression and poetry, creativity and spontaneity. This form of movement requires great body control, discipline, empathy and the willingness to withdraw.
Capoeira is now taught in over 50 countries worldwide. Children, teenagers and also adults can learn this culturally connected fight-dance-sport in kindergartens, schools, universities and in academies.

Description: Judo is a Japanese (combat) sport. The basic aim is to use your opponent's own movements to throw them to the ground and immobilise them. The course teaches the basics of judo. This includes movements (how situations can be brought about and exploited to your own advantage) and different throwing (fighting stances) and control techniques (grappling). There are also falling exercises for different situations, as throwing techniques can only be fully mastered once effective falling has been learned. A high degree of agility is advantageous for judo, and a certain use of force is necessary (for example, to force your opponent off balance). That is why every training session also includes appropriate movement (i.e. gymnastics), strength, stretching and loosening exercises for the whole body. The course is aimed at all those who are keen to find out if this high-contact sport is right for them (or who wish to return to judo after a longer break). The course is not suitable for those who already have some experience of judo, as much of the time is devoted to teaching the basics. For all advanced judoka, we recommend taking part in a trial training session in one of the Darmstadt sports clubs with a judo section.

Empowerment & Self Defense Course (EN)

This is a 6-week long series of 2-hour courses in the methodology of ESD (Empowerment through Self Defense). ESD sees self-defense techniques not only as a tool for dangerous situations but as an approach to personal empowerment. This approach is holistic and includes strategies to deal with conflicts, to set verbal boundaries and be more assertive, deal with microaggressions and physical danger. Through these skillsets of verbal formulas, physical techniques, discussions and the safe space to explore our personal boundaries, share and heal from our past experiences, people tend to feel more confident, empowered, supported and have an overall more positive outlook in their capabilities to stand up for themselves.

Certification of the teacher, Livia Tice:
In November 2020 I took part in the 5-days Training of ESD Instructors in Albania, which was the first training organized in the country. I worked for 3 years with the NGO ESD Albania, the authority for spreading this methodology in the country. In 2021 I got certified as a Level 2 instructor and during the last 3 years I have trained and assisted in training more than 400 people in Albania and Europe. The Japanese martial art of Aikido, which I practiced for 4 years, is what brought me to the self-defense course and the journey to become an instructor and share the methodology with others.

At the physical and movement level, trampolining helps improve balance, coordination, strength and orientation, as well as body awareness and perception. Mentally, it promotes self-confidence, helping participants to overcome their fears, improve their concentration and sharpen their powers of self-assessment. The rotation and jumping elements offered by trampolining are used to develop participants' inner sense of rhythm and improve their posture and coordination. Dates: April 19 and April 26, 3 hours each - one course per two dates

Price: 20 euros (students) and 30 euros (employees)

A cooperation with the AStA geschaeftsstelle@asta-hda.de

Instructor: Doris Aubele

Description:

WenDo is for all girls and women regardless of their origin, skin color, religion or lifestyle. Anyone can take part, whether short or tall, young or old, fat or thin, loud or quiet, shy or brave, pregnant or not, lesbian or straight, with or without disabilities, sporty or not sporty ... simply everyone is welcome!

Experiencing your own strength and the conscious use of voice, eye contact and body language are part of the course. Well-known opinions such as: "That's no good! Men are always physically superior to women ..." are questioned on the basis of facts and personal experience during the training. With the help of role-playing games, perception exercises, fantasy journeys, liberation and defense techniques, women learn to defend themselves against everyday pick-up situations and attacks. The WenDo course is also about having fun with movement, playing, feeling good, being amazed, trying things out and much more.
