Description: Canne de combat (French for "fighting stick") is a French martial art, the roots of which go back to the 18th century. Originally developed as a self-defence method, canne de combat is now a fast and agile competitive sport which combines elegance and acrobatics with dynamism and efficiency. It is the ideal recreational sport as canne de combat is quick to learn, very varied and carries a low risk of injury. The aim of the course is to teach the six canne de combat strokes as well as other basic techniques. Participants are first familiarised in a playful manner with the equipment – the stick – and then progress to duelling with various partner exercises. No special equipment is necessary – apart from a positive attitude and comfortable sports clothing.

Übungsleiterin: Livia Tice

This is a 6-week long series of 2-hour courses in the methodology of ESD (Empowerment through Self Defense). ESD sees self-defense techniques not only as a tool for dangerous situations but as an approach to personal empowerment. This approach is holistic and includes strategies to deal with conflicts, to set verbal boundaries and be more assertive, deal with microaggressions and physical danger. Through these skillsets of verbal formulas, physical techniques, discussions and the safe space to explore our personal boundaries, share and heal from our past experiences, people tend to feel more confident, empowered, supported and have an overall more positive outlook in their capabilities to stand up for themselves.

Certification of the teacher, Livia Tice:
In November 2020 I took part in the 5-days Training of ESD Instructors in Albania, which was the first training organized in the country. I worked for 3 years with the NGO ESD Albania, the authority for spreading this methodology in the country. In 2021 I got certified as a Level 2 instructor and during the last 3 years I have trained and assisted in training more than 400 people in Albania and Europe. The Japanese martial art of Aikido, which I practiced for 4 years, is what brought me to the self-defense course and the journey to become an instructor and share the methodology with others.
